Nico Hulkenberg may have just agreed to a new deal with Haas, but he is already thinking about his options for the future and likes the idea of working on Audi’s new F1 project, which will begin in 2026.

Nico Hulkenberg expressed interest in taking part in the new Formula 1 endeavor from Audi.

When new engine regulations take effect in 2026, the German automaker intends to formally enter the sport.
When the project is finished, it will take over the Sauber F1 operation, which currently competes under the Alfa Romeo moniker but will then change its name to the Audi works team.

While many decisions are being made behind the scenes, power unit production is already in full swing. It is far too early to speculate about which drivers will be behind the wheel of Audi vehicles in 2026, but inevitably, there has been a lot of speculation in that regard.

As the team’s top long-term target, Carlos Sainz has been identified. The Spaniard claims he is content with Ferrari and hasn’t started planning too far ahead, but according to Mirror Sport, Sainz and his entourage have had discussions with Audi.

Another person who has been linked is Mick Schumacher, which makes sense given his last name and the fact that he is German, both of which will appeal to Audi.
The Mercedes reserve, however, has not competed in an F1 race for a year and appears unlikely to be selected for 2024, which could hurt his chances.

Hulkenberg may be considerably older, but if Audi does want a German driver, he certainly seems up to the task.

He has a job to do at Haas where he recently extended his contract for the upcoming season before he can concentrate on that, though.
Given that he was less-than-subtle about how he feels about his current vehicle following a disappointing Italian Grand Prix, he will hope the team gives him a car to drive that is significantly more competitive.
