Bruins Rookies Made Clear Impression On Veteran Charlie McAvoy
BOSTON — During preseason and training camp, there were chances to be had. And it appeared that the Bruins had at least two rookies who fully capitalized.
The Bruins have until Monday night to complete their roster because the regular season opener for Boston is on Wednesday.
Matt Poitras, a rookie center, was given the chance to stay with the team, according to Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery.
Just a few hours prior to Boston’s roster cutdown, defenseman Mason Lohrei and potential fourth-line center John Beecher were also close to securing a spot.
They certainly made decisions for general manager Don Sweeney very challenging.
Among other veterans, all three left a lasting impression on Charlie McAvoy, the star defenseman for the Boston Bruins.

Following Wednesday morning’s Bruins practice at TD Garden, McAvoy told NESN .
com, “They all deserve to be here.”.
“All of them will give this team new life. And I can’t wait to see them on opening night.
“.
more brussels.
.
In five preseason contests, Poitras in particular, recorded three goals and two assists.
The 19-year-old, who was selected in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft, has displayed maturity and composure, according to Montgomery, that are far beyond his years.
He’ll likely play second- or third-line center for Boston.
Wednesday’s NHL debut of Boston’s rookies will be exciting to watch, according to McAvoy.
Perhaps even more ecstatic than the rookies themselves, McAvoy suggested.
Being able to experience your dreams coming true is terrifying. And I can assure you that everyone enjoys it; I know I do, according to McAvoy, who spoke to NESN.com.
You just want them to succeed so badly.
My impression is that you become more ecstatic when they score their first goal or point.
Because of how much we care about one another, you might be more excited than they are.
It’s going to be awesome.

After Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci announced their retirements in Boston during the offseason, Poitras and the other rookies have increased the level of competition.
David Pastrnak and McAvoy both served as Brad Marchand’s alternates, and McAvoy acknowledged that it was a “passing of the torch” with Brad Marchand now leading Boston.
In the lead-up to the 2023–24 season, McAvoy has been one of the Bruins to assume a more proactive position.
Like the rookies, McAvoy has an opportunity thanks to that responsibility.
For his advice to Boston’s younger players, McAvoy said, “Just play your game; you’re here for a reason.”.
“You’re here for a reason—you had a fantastic camp, after all. And guess what?
Nobody is perfect.
My flaws are obvious.
Nobody among us is.
nobody ever will be.
You’re going to make mistakes.
We are right there to support you.
We’re going to save you.
Simply ensuring their confidence is maintained is all I’m doing.
“.
Beecher and Lohrei, two rookies on the Bruins, in particular, praised McAvoy for his guidance and assistance.
It is safe to say that he has had an equal impact on the Bruins’ rookies as they have had on him.
