Tiger Woods’ response to ridiculous Hole 18 farce at the Masters sums him up

Tiger Woods returned to the Masters this year and on Friday broke the record for most cuts made in a row – but it wasn’t easy for the five-time green jacket winner

Tiger Woods stood on the 18th green of Augusta National on Friday afternoon, having completed the most gruelling 23 holes of golf.

His body wouldn’t have gone through something like this for a long time.

Like many other players, Woods was forced to finish the first round on Friday morning after a storm hit Augusta, forcing a postponement of the previous day’s start time. However, from the second day onwards, the weather suddenly changed. Howling winds ravaged Augusta, causing carnage. Rory McIlroy’s round lasted six hours as gunshots echoed throughout Augusta National. That was cruel. Woods may have had an advantage by getting out early, but the challenge of playing through 23 holes was still a big challenge for his body. In addition to his age of 48 years, he has undergone spinal fusion, ankle fusion, and nearly lost his leg in a car accident in 2021. It looks mechanical when it works. When he bends down, he looks tough. He says his face hides the pain he faces every day.

So for him to be in first place in a tournament and to be on the 18th green is more than just an incredible feat. It’s truly a miracle. Woods didn’t have to make the putt to make the cut and set the record, and he could have made two or three putts. Without a par, Woods won’t want to make another putt. I never have. And the only thing that happened while he was building the 4-foot crate to make it even more ridiculous was the weather. The wind blew the sand away from the green bunker three times. Three times, Woods had to step away from shots and cover his face. And before this spring’s farce, Woods had to muster up his courage three times. The wind briefly changed from strong to light, allowing Woods to make the putt. He let it sink. Of course he did. He finished with one over, breaking the Masters record for advancing to the third round for the 24th time in a row. Woods hasn’t played four rounds of golf in 15 months. The only experiment in 2024 ended in failure. And how is it still in the bottle?

Because we’re talking about Tiger Woods. A man who won 15 major tournaments. A winner who came back from a terrible car accident to win the Masters. And, in his own words, he is a man who “loves golf.”

Whatever his awful round on Saturday, and whatever happens at this year’s Masters, he’ll never get the credit he deserves for the frankly ridiculous feat he accomplished on Friday. Of course, you won’t be able to get the trophy either.
