On their second drive, the Ducks scored on a fourth-and-short situation at the CU 30-yard line. The third drive of Oregon ended with a TD after a fake punt inside the Ducks’ 20-yard line.
The Buffs needed to come out swinging with this kind of aggression.
Instead, they decided to punt on a fourth-and-8 situation at the Ducks 38 on their first entry into Oregon territory in the first quarter. One team competed to avoid defeat.
A win was necessary for the other team.
There was absolutely no chance they would leave Eugene with a victory because it wasn’t the Buffs.

The Buffs will never again sneak up on anyone. Not after College Gameday brought all those celebrities to Boulder and Big Noon Kickoff made an appearance three weeks in a row. Everyone is concentrating on the Buffs, even their opponents, Lil’ Wayne, The Rock, and 60 Minutes.
ESPN video of Oregon coach Dan Lanning’s pregame speech to his Ducks undoubtedly revealed the identity of teams across the nation: “Rooted in substance, not flash,” Lanning said.
They compete for clicks, while we compete for victories. This game will be played on grass, not in Hollywood, so there must be a difference.
Prepare yourself, CU, for more of that.

This is the humiliation that everyone foresaw in Week 1 against TCU.
The Coach Prime haters have been waiting for this blowout ever since he first brought his “Louis” to Boulder last winter.
It doesn’t matter that two-way star Travis Hunter was unable to get dressed. But the fact that it didn’t occur until now — in Week 4 at 10th-ranked Oregon — is still a noteworthy accomplishment.
It will be interesting to see how the Buffs respond when they face USC, another elite team, at Folsom Field the following week.
There are still many things at stake for the Buffs.
Lay another egg, though, and things start to heat up against USC.
