Breaking:Ridiculous Scottie Scheffler takes control of Memorial Tournament

World number one Scottie Scheffler will take a three-shot lead into the weekend at the PGA Tour’s $20m Memorial Tournament

Scheffler put on a ball-striking clinic at Muirfield Village on Friday.

The American took the outright lead at the turn thanks to three birdies on the front nine.

His round threatened to unravel after Scheffler dropped shots at the 11th and 13th.

But the reigning Masters champion played his final four holes in three-under which included the most incredible eagle at the par-5 15th.

Scheffler was asked by one reporter immediately after his second round if golf was ‘easy’ for him right now.

“Easy is definitely not the right word,” he said.

“I feel like what I love about this game is how difficult it is.

“I love coming out here and competing against the best players in the world on the best golf courses, and this is obviously a pretty challenging track.”

He continued: “I love kind of the — I really just love competing out here, and I don’t really think about whether or not it’s easy or hard, and some days I play good and some days I don’t, and outside of that, I’m just out here trying to compete.”

Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy (71) and Xander Schauffele (73) are also inside the top-10.

Notable players to miss the 36-hole cut included Jordan Spieth, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler.
