Castleford Tigers make move for current NRL assistant coach

To hire the current Hull KR assistant coach, Castleford Tigers move.

Hull Live has learned that Danny McGuire has been offered the position of head coach at Castleford Tigers.
The 40-year-old, who is currently Hull KR’s assistant coach and plays for another Super League team, has impressed the Fords since starting in the position four seasons ago.

After two seasons with the Robins, McGuire, who won eight Grand Finals with the Rhinos, called it a career and remained at the club as a coach.
Before Willie Peters’ arrival, he served as the interim boss while working for both Tony Smith and Peters.

In contrast, Castleford is prepared to offer McGuire his first permanent position as head coach because they believe he is the ideal candidate to coach a younger team in 2024.
They are putting together a new-looking team with the additions of Elie El-Zakhem and Nixon Putt, who were confirmed as new hires earlier this week, along with the renewals of Joe Westerman and Liam Watts.

But McGuire’s interest isn’t limited to Castleford.
After it became apparent that he might leave Hull KR at the end of the season despite being under contract, he is said to have attracted the interest of a number of potential employers.

Castleford, who this week saw their offer to interim manager Danny Ward rejected, are eager to fill the position quickly and are hopeful that a deal can be reached.

Throughout his 471 club games, McGuire amassed 276 tries.
He holds the all-time try-scoring record for the Super League.
