Deion Sanders’ use of Colorado’s transfer portal is “troubling,” according to an SEC commissioner.

After the Buffaloes’ impressive season-opening victory over TCU, which featured a number of new players on the roster, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey commented on the beginning of Deion Sanders’ tenure with Colorado.

Sankey was asked by Rich Eisen what he thought about Colorado starting the season with 86 new players, largely because of Sanders’ use of the transfer portal.

The commissioner stated, “The headline can be a little troubling as we’re talking about providing more certainty and security for student-athletes.
“Deion has explained a lot, I believe.
What people think about that is probably a topic for a different discussion on another day.

Naturally, it is ironic that the SEC commissioner, of all people, finds the use of the transfer portal to be “troubling.”.

Even though the roster changes aren’t quite as extreme as the one Colorado underwent this offseason, the top programs in his conference are undoubtedly using the portal as well.
While Stetson Bennett switched between Georgia and another school during his collegiate career, LSU won the championship in 2019 with transfer quarterback Joe Burrow at the controls.

Bennett’s sole accomplishment was to guide the Bulldogs to back-to-back national titles.

LSU and Georgia were probably satisfied that they used the transfer portals before winning their respective national championships.

Given Colorado’s recent roster turnover, Sanders is currently a divisive figure, but it is difficult to contest the initial outcomes. The Buffaloes only managed one victory all of last season, but they are off to a perfect start and will be ranked in 2023.

The route they took may be “troubling” to Sankey, but Colorado’s future is as promising as it has been for years.
