Steelers rule out 5 starters, LB Alex Highsmith questionable for Week 5 vs. Ravens
Five starters for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ home game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5 have been officially ruled out.
The good news is that they will have QB Kenny Pickett available after suffering a knee injury that kept him out of their Week 4 loss against the Texans, even though missing several key starters is undoubtedly not ideal.
A few players, including LT Dan Moore Jr., were listed as OUT on the list of expected Week 5 absences.
Pat Freiermuth, a tight end who was previously listed as questionable with a hamstring, and (knee), who Tomlin announced would be out earlier in the week.
P Pressley Harvin (hamstring) and OG James Daniels (groin) were also ruled out for a second straight week.
Finally, DE DeMarvin Leal was declared ineligible after suffering a concussion in Week 4.
This information was a little unexpected because Leal was downgraded on Friday after being upgraded to a limited participant for practice on Thursday.
Only LB Alex Highsmith, who missed practice on Thursday due to a groin injury, is listed as questionable; however, on Friday, he was upgraded to limited participation. Despite being listed as questionable, Highsmith said in a video shared by the Steelers Now team that he would play in Week 5 against the Ravens, albeit at less than 100 percent.
Due to the loss of two important starters at right guard and left tackle, the offensive line will once again experience the most disruption from this group of injuries.
While first-round rookie Broderick Jones will get his first career start as a result of Moore’s injury, we can anticipate OG Nate Herbig to fill in for Daniels at right guard for the second straight week.
