Bruins make another round of cuts as Opening Night roster takes shape
As the roster for Opening Night takes shape, the Bruins make more cuts.
The Bruins made a new round of cuts this past weekend with Opening Night just a few days away.
Jesper Boqvist, Jakub Zboril, and Oskar Steen were put on waivers on Saturday.
On Sunday, Providence received an assignment for all three after they received clearance.
The waivers for AJ Greer and Patrick Brown were also placed on Sunday; if they are cleared, Providence will receive them tomorrow.
Greer had a good camp but was up against some tough competition for a fourth-line spot, so this is a tough break for him.
While Boqvist didn’t strike me as particularly impressive during the preseason, Brown can be said to have similar qualities.
The B’s signed both Boqvist and Brown over the summer; Boqvist signed a one-year contract while Brown signed a two-year one.
John Beecher, Mason Lohrei, and Matthew Poitras are notable individuals who are still involved. Beecher and Poitras seem destined to be on the roster for Opening Night.
Given that there are currently eight defensemen on the roster and no available forwards, it is still unclear exactly how Lohrei’s situation stands.
There’s a good chance they’ll decide to bring eight defensemen and will bring a forward up from Providence as needed, but we’ll see.
