William Nylander Explains Wink to John Klingberg in Maple Leafs’ Season-Opening Win Against Canadiens

William Nylander Explains Wink to John Klingberg in Maple Leafs’ Season-Opening Win Against Canadiens

Although Nylander is unsure of how it happened, he sent teammate John Klingberg a wink.

On Wednesday, after trailing the Montreal Canadiens 2-0, the Toronto Maple Leafs scored three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead.

The most recent of those goals was scored during a power play by new teammate John Klingberg’s pass to William Nylander.

Nylander was seen on the broadcast winking after the goal.

With a chuckle, Klingberg acknowledged, “Yeah, that was to me.”.

After joining the Maple Leafs in July on a one-year, $4.15 million deal, Klingberg has been in charge of the team’s first power play unit.

Since Klingberg and Nylander have both shared a team at the World Hockey Championships in the past, it’s not surprising that there was some chemistry right away.

But why did Nylander wink at his teammate?

Before his team plays the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, Nylander said, “I honestly have no idea where that came from.
“Someone showed that to me after the game, and I was like, ‘I don’t know what that was.'”.

Klingberg performed admirably in Toronto’s 6-5 shootout victory over Montreal despite missing the majority of the preseason due to injury.

There will probably be more winks to come, whether they are explained or not, with a top power-play unit clicking like that.
