Indianapolis—Today, the Indianapolis Colts waived wide receiver Amari Rodgers and claimed cornerback Ameer Speed off waivers (from New England).
The 6-3, 215-pound speedster made two solo tackles and one special teams stop in five games with the Patriots this season.
In the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, New England made their first selection of him (214th overall).
In 2022, Speed made 11 starts out of 12 games as a collegiate at Michigan State, tallying 62 tackles (36 solo), 0 tackles for loss, and 5 passes defensed.
He recorded 25 tackles (18 solo) and one pass defensed in 48 games (three starts) at Georgia from 2017 to 21 before joining Michigan State.
A member of the Bulldogs’ 2021 National Championship squad was Speed.
This season, both the team’s active roster and practice squad have included Rodgers, a 5-9, 212-pound player.
