The FIA has ordered an investigation into Max Verstappen amid suspicions surrounding Lewis Hamilton.
Max Verstappen won the Formula 1 World Championship for the third consecutive year.
Max Verstappen has been riding a wave of confidence all season as he heads into this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix.
The Red Bull star has won three races in a row and increased his margin of victory in each race to win the 2023 Drivers’ Championship.
Lewis Hamilton was two seconds behind Verstappen when he took the checkered flag at the Circuit of the Americas, but his weekend was ruined when the FIA disqualified the Mercedes man for an illegally worn surface alongside Charles Leclerc.
So Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz took the remaining places on the podium. Mercedes admitted the setback left them “embarrassed” but the Mexican Grand Prix will provide the perfect opportunity to make amends.
Haas Team Principal: “As I always say, without the fans we wouldn’t be here just to race for ourselves.
Sometimes we try that in motorsports and it doesn’t work.
It doesn’t take much time.
“I think the approach last year was a bit more passionate than aggressive.
Especially with older drivers, when you suddenly have 20 people jumping, they all want the same thing.
“I think from a driver’s perspective, everybody freaks out if it’s too close, and I hope they can get that message across.
You can ask, but it doesn’t go too far.”
Red Bull could regret their decision to let Alex Albon leave F1 to join Williams, according to Sky Sports F1 commentator Martin Brundle.
“He’s settled in there and feels comfortable,” Brundle said after the Thai-British driver finished second in FP1 in Mexico.
“It’s carrots and sticks.
Some drivers need to be listened to carefully, have a hand on their shoulder and feel confident to feel valuable to the team.
“I’m sure Red Bull will still want to bring him back.”
F1 world champion and McLaren legend Mika Hakkinen has hailed a return to his former team in 2023 as “impossible”.
In Unibet’s Mexican GP preview, he said: “The team grabbing the headlines and getting results is McLaren, with Lando Norris finishing fifth in Austin.
Although Lewis’ disqualification meant he moved up from 3rd, he qualified well and rode great to finish 10 seconds behind Max.
“He and team-mate Oscar Piastri achieved excellent results and with Oscar winning the sprint race, Lando will be very focused on securing his first Grand Prix win when the opportunity arises.
It has unity.
“McLaren have now overtaken Aston Martin for the World Team Championship, a result that seemed impossible at mid-season.
