Deion Sanders Provides Insight Into Decision to Demote Colorado’s Offensive Coordinator

To compound his team’s struggles, Colorado coach Deion Sanders relieved his offensive coordinator of play-calling duties this week before the game against Oregon State. But the change did not result in a win as Buffaloesand#039; the season continues to decline.

After a 26-19 loss to the No. 16 Beavers, Sanders explained why he relieved OC Sean Lewis of playing and gave that responsibility to former NFL coach Pat Shurmur, who worked as an analyst in Colorado.

“We’re not discounting Sean Lewis,” Sanders said when asked about making Shurmur the playmaker over Lewis, according to USA Today Sports. “We won’t do that. We do not take that tone. Sean is a good man. I think he is a good player.

“Then we just needed a change,” he continued. โ€œWe just had to try something else at the time and we did. I don’t look back on it. I don’t doubt myself in any way because it’s more than you can possibly know.”

The Buffaloes trail 4-5 in the series and have lost five of their last six games. Sanders added that play calling is “still a team effort” and that both Lewis and Shurmur are “really talented.”

“One person does not make good or bad,” he said.
