Craig Breslow Identifies Red Sox Player Drawing Trade Interest

The Red Sox have reportedly agreed to have Craig Breslow accept an offer to become Boston’s new baseball manager.
The Red Sox are getting a call from one of their best players from last season.
Speaking to reporters at the general manager’s meeting in Arizona on Wednesday, new Boston baseball manager Craig Breslow acknowledged that Alex Verdugo is garnering trade interest. It wasn’t exactly a sensational revelation, as Verdugo is coming off a strong campaign and entering the final year of his contract.
However, Breslow clarified that the club is not actively shopping the veteran winger. “Obviously, he’s a guy that other teams have reached out to because of the situation,” Breslow told reporters at The Boston Globe. “But I don’t think we can commit to anything. We have to look at every opportunity, every interaction with another club or agent as an opportunity to improve. We’ll see where it lands.”

Breslow added, “There have been conversations with him and he feels committed to performing as well as he can.”

Verdugo led the Red Sox in doubles and triples last season and was named a finalist for the Gold Glove Award for the first time in his career. Shortly after the season ended, the 27-year-old expressed his desire to continue playing in Boston, noting how he explained to the team’s brass that he liked the arrangement. If the Red Sox keep Verdugo, they will be ready to enter the 2024 season with a strong outfield trio of Masataka Yoshida, Jarren Duran and the center of the rotation in Mookie Betts.
