Head coach Kevin O’Connell release unexpected news on Kirk Cousins
Rumors surrounding the future of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins have swirled all season. When the Vikings started the season 0-3, it seemed like everyone was in the “get Cousins out” boat. Enthusiasm seems to have waned somewhat since the Achilles injury.
At least one person in the Vikings organization is in Cousins’ camp to return next season: Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell.
andquot;I just hope Kirk Cousinsis still playing quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings.and Vikings HC Kevin O Connell tells @AdamSchein he knows Kirk Cousinshas options in free agency but hopes will return to Minnesota next year. In an interview with XM Radio, O’Connell sang Cousins’ praises, including extolling Cousins’ leadership qualities in the locker room. O’Connell said Cousins ”really was a defining example of what we look for in the locker room as a teammate.”
Kirk’s impact on the team has been evident since his season-ending injury, as teammates — both current and former — have come out to support the quarterback. Cousins, 35, is in the final year of his contract and there is no guarantee he will return to the team next season.
A lot will depend on how Cousins recovers and recovers from the injury. Achilles injuries have been notoriously difficult to recover from in various sports, and Cousins’ age will likely make recovery more difficult. However, if Cousins wanted to return to Minnesota, he would likely be welcomed back with open arms.
