Charles Davis thought the Packers were screwed by a controversial non-lateral from Kenny Pickett
Charles Davis thought the Packers were destroyed by Kenny Pickett’s undeniable fandom.
It sure was a good year for the Green Bay Packers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers matchup. These are two of the most storied franchises in the NFL, and while the 2023 Steelers are good (but?), the three-win Packers are coming off one of their worst seasons in decades.
But that didn’t keep the exciting battle in Pittsburgh from controversy.
Late in the second quarter, Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett sacked Jaylen Warren.
It looked clear that Pickett’s pass traveled behind, causing Warren to fumble as he dropped the pass, allowing the Packers to score on the reverse.
Only the referees didn’t see it that way, calling the play incomplete.
Don’t think they broke the play when Warren was running the ball.
When the Packers failed to go on a winning streak, CBS announcer Charles Davis “vehemently” disagreed, saying he believed Green Bay had been cheated.
Charles Davis isn’t arguing with Gene Steratore the way Chris Collinsworth did with Terry McAulay, but the CBS analyst said he “completely disagrees” with the former CEO’s comments.
I understand that many NFL rules seem complicated by design, but this seems like a very clear warning to me.
Rules expert Gene Steratore offering a weak defense of the umpire’s call (“It looked difficult”…really?) should be all the confirmation we need.
Football isn’t played in a vacuum, but this call sure cost the Packers a lot of money. They lose 23-19.
