Insider reveals Colts decision on head coach Bill Belichick’s fate in New England

An insider says the Colts loss could have sealed coach Bill Belichick’s fate in New England.

The New England Patriots’ 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday was not only the team’s eighth loss of the season, but also the team’s third loss in its last seven games without a field goal.

Things haven’t been bad for New England since 2000, when Bill Belichick took over as the team’s head coach.
When asked last week if he wanted to coach for the rest of the season, Belichick said he would focus on what he could control.
But SI.com’s Albert Breer thinks the sign is on the wall. 71-year-old director.

“I can honestly say that if I were Robert Kraft right now, I would go to Bill and say, ‘What do you want to do about this?'” Breer said, via NBC Sports Boston .
“I think they’re getting to a point where they can sit down and say, ‘Do you want to stop now and let Jerod Mayo coach the season?’ So we can make an announcement in December and have a nice celebration before the last home game at the end of the season.
Will you go all the way or fight?
It’s the end of the year and a decision has to be made about you.”

With the Patriots off this week and returning to action on Nov.
26 against the New York Giants, this could be a good time for Kraft and Belichick to figure out an exit strategy, if that is indeed the direction which the organization chooses to take.
When Belichick becomes a free agent, there will likely be a list of candidates for his services, with as many as a dozen teams looking for a new head coach next year.

“It has some teams that will surprise you.
This is Dallas, Washington. I think if he gets the opportunity and wants to coach next year, he probably will.
You have to be in line at least a little bit ahead,” Breer added.
If Belichick ends up coaching a new team in 2024, his new employer won’t cost a dime. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Kraft wants some form of compensation for any team that hires Belichick.
