Kevin Stefanski Explains Decision To Not Challenge Near Safety In Browns Win Over Steelers

Kevin Stefanski fouled on a non-safety call early in the Cleveland Browns-Pittsburgh Steelers game.

The latest chapter in the Cleveland Browns-Pittsburgh Steelers rivalry began Sunday afternoon.
Pittsburgh drove to the 9-yard line immediately following a perfect Cleveland punt.
Then the best defense in the NFL did what it does best!

Myles Garrett picked off the Steelers’ first down and picked off Kenny Pickett for a critical loss.
This play looked like a textbook safety when seen live, but the officials decided not to call it and put the ball back on the 1-yard line.

Kevin Stefanski tried to challenge the play but was unable to get the red flag in time and continued the play. Even CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore said he believed the play would have been overturned if it had been replayed during the broadcast.

Why didn’t Cleveland’s coach call the game earlier?
After the match, he explained:

“That’s what I did (to invite).
It’s difficult to talk about the forward momentum and where it went. So even though I wanted to be safe, it was better not to do it there.

Anytime there’s a game that could end in a score, it’s under the microscope.
Those two points could have easily been the difference and it could have been a win or a loss for the Browns.

Fortunately, those two runs didn’t come back to bite the Browns.
They capped the Steelers’ 13-10 victory with another game-winning field goal by Dustin Hopkins.
