Free agent sounds off on $172 million contract with Phillies

Aaron Nola recently agreed to a seven-year, $172 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Nola was a free agent this offseason, but ultimately decided to return to Philadelphia. Nola recently discussed her decision, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“Our priority was to provide for our family,” Nola said. “At the end of the day, you don’t have to worry about other players. They get what they want and it’s their decision. We will make the decision that is most comfortable for you.

Nola will get more money elsewhere. But he was comfortable with the Phillies, with whom he spent his entire career. And Nola, 30, who recently signed a seven-year contract, has the potential to be a Phillies star for the rest of his career.

He committed to spending the next seven years in Philadelphia. “Because you’re going to spend the next seven years in one place,” Nola said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer . “You want to enjoy it. Nola made the All-Star team in 2018 and earned two top-10 NL Cy Young Award finishes. While he didn’t have his best season in 2023, posting a 4.46 ERA in 193.2 innings, Nola was very reliable and solid.

In fact, it’s hard to find a more consistent pitcher than Aaron Nola. He has played exactly 32 games over the past three seasons. He made 12 starts in the shortened 2020 campaign, but made 34 starts in 2019 and 33 in 2018. Nola is a great pitcher and many teams wanted him because of his talent. But make no mistake. Teams were also interested in his reliability on the mound. Nola eventually agreed to a contract that would keep him in Philadelphia for the next seven years. Now he’s trying to help Philadelphia win its first World Series since 2008.
