Vikings bring Sheldon Day to active roster, make several other moves

The Minnesota Vikings made several roster moves on Tuesday, most of which involved the practice squad in some way. We will keep you informed of all events. The team moved defensive lineman Sheldon Day from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Day, who has been in the league since being drafted in the fourth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016, was on the Vikings’ practice squad last season and did not play in a game. He went through training camp with the team this year and recently returned to the practice squad after a downsizing. Denver had a chance to capture the moments it had Sunday night from Dean Lowry before he suffered a season-ending pectoral injury. To make room on the Suns’ active roster, the Vikings waived wide receiver Trishton Jackson. Jackson, who had huge success on the two-point conversion against Atlanta, has been bounced between the practice squad and active roster multiple times this season. The Vikings could send him back to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

The Vikings also added defensive lineman Austin Bryant to the practice squad. Bryant was a fourth-round pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2019 NFL Draft and spent his first four seasons in the Motor City. He then signed with the San Francisco 49ers and re-signed with their practice squad before being held out of training camp and released by the Niners about a week ago. To make room on the practice squad for Bryant, the Vikings waived wide receiver/special teams Dan Chisena. Chisena served with the Vikings from 2020 to 2022, primarily serving as a punt returner. He then signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they released him during the preseason. About a month ago, he returned to the Vikings. Finally, the Vikings lost linebacker Benton Whitley when the New York Giants cut him from the Vikings’ practice squad. Whitley, who was waived off Kansas City’s practice squad by the Vikings in 2022 but returned to the practice squad after this year’s training camp, was promoted to the active roster in the season opener and has not seen action since. The loss of Wheatley, combined with the other moves described above, means there is currently an open spot on the practice squad. However, as previously mentioned, that spot could be filled tomorrow if Triston Jackson clears waivers. Here’s a complete look at the moves the Vikings made to start Week 12. There aren’t many moves that have a super impact, but at this point in the season, every move counts.
