What should be done for his actions ?Bears players react to gut-wrenching loss to Browns: ‘This one cuts deeper’
The Chicago Bears (5-9) suffered another brutal defeat to the Cleveland Browns (9-5), which dashed any hopes of a late postseason run. It was the third time this season where Chicago blew a fourth-quarter lead where they led by 10-plus points. Oh, and by the way, it was the most times in a single season, which tied an NFL record.
The Bears defense had a dominant performance, which included three interceptions (including a pick-6) and four sacks. They were near-perfect for three quarters, until Cleveland scored 13 unanswered points and scored points on three of their final four drives.
But Chicago’s offense should’ve done more in the losing effort. They managed just 10 points, had eight three-and-outs and some costly drops. The Bears’ lone offensive touchdown came courtesy of an Eddie Jackson interception return, which set them up on the 1-yard line. And even that was a struggle for both sides, as it took eight plays (including a slew of penalties) before Justin Fields connected with Cole Kmet for the score.
As you can imagine, it wasn’t a pretty scene in the Bears locker room after after blown fourth-quarter lead, where players like Justin Fields, Montez Sweat, DJ Moore, Eddie Jackson, Darnell Mooney, Tyrique Stevenson and Jaylon Johnson sounded off on the deflating loss.

“At the end of the day, the Cleveland Browns made more plays down at the end than we did. Our guys made a lot of them today, but that’s what happened at the very end … The guys will have their eyes forward. But it stings and it’s going to sting. Having this loss is always hard.” — Source

“The defense played a hell of a game. I’m not sure if they could have played any better for us as a team. I’ve got to play better as the quarterback of this team. And I think we all got to be better on offense.” — Source

“This one cuts deeper. It’s just crazy because we came out fighting. We knew what was at stake with this. It’s like we keep preaching, ‘Finish. Finish. Finish.’ And we were so close. We’ve just got to finish. It’s crazy, man.” — Source
WR Darnell Mooney
CLEVELAND, OHIO – DECEMBER 17: Darnell Mooney #11 of the Chicago Bears reacts after failing to haul in a Hail Mary pass in the end zone during the fourth quarter of a game against the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium on December 17, 2023 in Cleveland, Ohio.
“I didn’t like how we felt comfortable in the third quarter. Just lackadaisical and just conservative. Everybody just happy that we were winning and just got to be aggressive and continue to put their foot on the pedal and just go out there and punch ’em. Can’t get too comfortable in the third quarter. That’s what kind of bit us. Tried to switch gears in the fourth quarter once they scored. It’s hard to do that.” — Source
“Shouldn’t have to come down to those things, just throw the ball up in the air and make some things work (on the final Hail Mary). It’s an unfortunate thing that I wasn’t able to hold on to it.”
