In NFL Week 4, the Las Vegas Raiders make an unexpected choice for Jimmy Garoppolo’s replacement.

Due to Jimmy Garoppolo’s absence from Sunday’s contest against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Las Vegas Raiders made a completely unexpected choice regarding who will start at quarterback for them in Week 4.

Jimmy Garoppolo not only had his worst performance as a member of the Las Vegas Raiders last week as he threw three interceptions against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he also sustained a significant injury as a result of the insult.
The concussion the 31-year-old sustained kept him out of practice for the majority of the week and into the protocols.

The team decided to sit him out of Saturday night’s game against the Chargers because he had done so little all week.
Following the news, it was assumed that veteran backup and number two quarterback on the depth chart Brian Hoyer would start today’s game against Los Angeles.
Not so fast, though.

Aidan O’Connell is selected as the quarterback by the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4 over Brian Hoyer.

In an unexpected turn of events, NFL Media league insider Ian Rapoport revealed on Sunday morning that Hoyer would not be given the offense’s control on Sunday but that they would instead be given to rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell.

Even though it is unexpected, O’Connell has garnered positive attention ever since the team selected him with a fourth-round pick in April, so it is not entirely unexpected.
He also had a strong preseason, completing 43 of his 62 passes for 482 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Since the organization signed Garoppolo in NFL free agency this spring, it was thought that he would only be a temporary solution to their positional problem.
The opportunity to play O’Connell in a favorable matchup against the Chargers on Sunday at 4:05 PM ET on CBS gives the Las Vegas Raiders a chance to see what he can do since Hoyer is also not in their long-term plans.
