Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes aims for NFL history Week 5 vs. Vikings
Week 5’s game against the Cardinals will see Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes attempt NFL history.
Vikings.
Week 5’s matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes offers him the chance to write NFL history.
Over his more than six seasons in the league, the two-time MVP has never played against the Vikings.
Mahomes’ rookie season in 2017 (which saw him play in just one game) and the Chiefs’ 2018 season both saw no meetings with the Vikings. Week 9 of the 2019 season saw Kansas City defeat the NFC North division 26-23, but Mahomes was unable to play because of a knee injury.
After that match nearly four years ago, the two teams didn’t compete again.
One restriction applies to Mahomes’ potential for making history.
Even if he wins against the Vikings, he will still have yet to defeat the Chiefs.
If Kansas City supporters get their way, the 28-year-old will never have the opportunity to call Arrowhead Stadium his home because he will spend the rest of his career there.
But it’s not unheard of for a legendary quarterback to leave a team after many years, if not decades. The legendary Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints (who began his career with the San Diego Chargers), the “GOAT” Tom Brady, and Hall of Famers Brett Favre and Peyton Manning are the only four quarterbacks to defeat all 32 NFL teams.
Mahomes has the opportunity to join five other players in defeating 31 different teams on Sunday. The group consists of veteran Kerry Collins, former teammate of Mahomes Alex Smith, veteran Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers, and longtime Seattle Seahawk Russell Wilson.
Mahomes’ conceivable latest achievement would be impressive, as Dave Campbell of the San Diego Union-Tribune noted, noting that “the NFL’s formula for interconference competition only allows for half of the league to appear on the schedule every four years.”.
