Exclusive: Keefe sounds brutál on Maple Leafs stars after loss to Blackhawks

Following their 4-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night two, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe named his team’s best players.

Keefe was especially upset about Toronto’s All-Star game early in the defeat, which put an end to the team’s two-game winning streak that stretched back to the season’s beginning.

“We had a really sloppy start to the game with all of our best players,” Keefe remarked.
We are thus unable to win the game as a result.

“We’ve already seen that movie, when you let your opponent stay around.”.

After trailing 9–7 in the opening frame, the Maple Leafs fell behind 13–12 in the second, as the Blackhawks took a 3–1 lead.
Toronto outscored Chicago 16–9 in the last frame, but Arvid Soderblom, who made 34 saves that evening, held them back.

On 30 shots, goalie Joseph Woll scored 3 goals in his Maple Leafs debut.
The Maple Leafs have scored 13 goals and given up 13 goals in their last three games.

John Tavares, the captain of Toronto, scored the game’s lone goal on Monday; assists came from Mark Giordano and William Nylander.

After the defeat, Tavares remarked, “It’s safe to say it’s a long season, but we want to start our game as soon as possible.”.

On Thursday, the Maple Leafs will travel for the first time this season to take on the Florida Panthers, who defeated Toronto in the second round of the playoffs the previous spring.
