Interviews have been conducted for the Boston Red Sox open general manager position with Minnesota Twins general manager Thad Levine.

Following Chaim Bloom’s firing, the Boston Red Sox are seeking to appoint a general manager. Minnesota Twins general manager Thad Levine is among the applicants who have conducted interviews this week.

Levine is the Minnesota GM, but he’s the No. 2 in the department behind Derek Falvey, who declined an interview offer from the Red Sox.

Cubs AGM Craig Breslow and former Pirates general manager Neal Huntington also participate in the interview process with Levine.
Additionally, there are candidates within.

As per a report on the matter by MLBTradeRumors:.

Levine is the only of the four names known to have been interviewed who is presently employed as a general manager, but he isn’t the most important decision-maker in the Twins organization.
He reports to Derek Falvey, President of Baseball Operations, who ironically turned down a chance to speak with the Red Sox directly (Chad Jennings of The Athletic).
Levine is undoubtedly thrilled with his team’s recent success, but he might also relish the opportunity to take over as chief baseball executive of a new team, particularly one that pays considerably more than Minnesota does.

After defeating the Toronto Blue Jays in a series in the wild card round, the Twins lost to the Houston Astros in the ALDS.
They had just won the American League Central.
I.e.

It was Boston’s third last-place showing in the previous four years as they finished last in the American League East.
It’s not out of the question that they could quickly turn it around because they have a burgeoning farm system and several exciting young players.
