The reasons behind the Steelers’ decision to retain wide receiver Gunner Olszewski.

According to reports, cornerback Desmond King is being let go. He couldn’t be worse than Patrick Peterson or Chandon Sullivan. Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers are wondering why wide receiver Gunner Olszewski wasn’t selected in this move.
Since Derek Watt, the latter has been the biggest waste of a roster spot.
He has cost the Steelers games, but keeping him around would be more expensive than releasing and replacing him.
It would seem that games should be unaffected by money.

It appears that Canada is also to blame.

In September, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote, “Offensive coordinator Matt Canada mostly asked Olszewski to run-block and take the occasional jet sweep.”.
He may not be the most exciting player on the field, but those responsibilities nevertheless demonstrate the Steelers’ appreciation for him.
While most players claim to be willing to do anything and everything on the football field, Olszewski actually demonstrates this willingness.
He offers his body as a blocker, covers punts and kicks, and generally helps out wherever it is needed, in addition to his involvement—or lack thereof—in receiving.

Olszewski hasn’t done much good for special teams.
He was named to the New England Patriots’ first team of the 2019 All-Pro returning class, but in Pittsburgh, he has appeared anything but.
In Week 4 against the New York Jets, he almost lost another fumble after mishandling a punt deep in Steelers territory the year before.

In some way, he’s gotten worse this year. Olszewski toe-tapped the kickoff in Week 2 instead of allowing it to go out of bounds, costing the Steelers 30 yards in front of the entire country.

Heck, if the Steelers are overcapacity after bringing back McFarland, Diontae Johnson, and signing Darius Rush, he might be cut.
