Bruins Trade Talk: latest update on Jack Rathbone to the bruins.

Should the West Roxbury, Massachusetts native and former Harvard defenseman Jack Rathbone rejoin the Boston Bruins?

On Monday, the defenseman for the Vancouver Canucks cleared waivers and was given a new team, the Abbotsford Canucks of the AHL. The consensus right now in the NHL is that Rathbone will be traded soon.

“I think it’s unfortunate because for a while, I really believed that Rathbone and the Canucks were a great match.
On the most recent episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Sportsnet NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman said, “It’s been slowly getting worse.

“I do believe that Rathbone occasionally thought about asking for a trade but never did.
However, I must stop and think because if that comes up, I won’t be surprised. Just another opportunity in a different company.
“.

Rathbone graduated from Harvard in 2020 after scoring 53 points in 61 NCAA games over the course of two seasons.
He then signed a two-year, $1.07 million, one-way contract that gave him a guaranteed NHL salary of $850,00 even if he played in the AHL just one year ago. Rathbone appeared to be on a fast track to a spot on the Canucks NHL roster in his first pro season with Abbotsford, but that never really materialized.
Rathbone had 40 points in 39 games. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound rearguard, who is 24 years old, had one goal and one assist in 11 games with Vancouver before falling off in the AHL, where he only managed five goals and nine assists in 37 games.

Hampus Lindholm, Matt Grzelcyk, Derek Forbort, and Jakub Zboril are all expected to be left-handed defensemen for the Boston Bruins this season, with rookie Mason Lohrei joining the mix as well.
Does it make sense for the Bruins at this time to acquire another unproven defenseman for the left side?

If Don Sweeney, the general manager of the Boston Bruins, can trade Matt Grzelcyk or Forbort, as was discussed last week, it might be possible.
In that case, it’s possible that the Bruins will turn out to be a team interested in Rathbone.
