Daniel Ricciardo sends Max Verstappen massage amid hope of Red Bull return
Daniel Ricciardo has been touted as a potential replacement for underperforming Sergio Perez at Red Bull and could reunite with Max Verstappen after the pair’s previous struggles.
Daniel Ricciardo says his relationship with Max Verstappen will be “very different” if Red Bull’s surprise return is confirmed.
The 34-year-old footballer is of the opinion that he will return to his former club.
He is reported to replace Sergio Perez, who has been in poor form since Mexico’s recent meltdown.
A decision could be made if Perez has to give up his current second place in the Formula 1 championship.
A return will see Ricciardo reunite with former Red Bull partner Verstappen, with the pair now set to team up again.
The current AlfaTauri star told Sky Sports: I think it’s probably very different from where we both work.
Ricciardo and Verstappen have had some setbacks in their previous places at Red Bull. They famously clashed at the 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
At the end of that season, Riccardo left for Renault and did not regret it.
Reflecting on the previous clash with Verstappen, he added: “I always say: I don’t regret anything.
Look, everything happens in that moment, and of course it felt like the best situation for me.”
Ricardo is not the only one talking about the possibility of a reunion.
Verstappen also made his comments known and said he didn’t want the Aussie to start in the first place.
In July, she said: “That’s right… I mean, I never wanted him to leave! No, I mean, that’s…
we know we get along. If Daniel does well in his current position, he will definitely he had a chance to go up, right?
“Honestly, everything is open,” he said.
Amid talk of a possible return, Verstappen’s current team-mate Perez is under contract until the end of the 2024 F1 season and his team has ruled out a possible suspension.
Meanwhile, the Mexican scoffed at suggestions he could retire after this season.
He aims to reach the milestone at this weekend’s home race in Mexico City.
Verstappen has won four of the last five races in Perez’s home country but has never won the final in Mexico.
They are also unbeaten in their last 4 games.
