Jets’ Dalvin Cook addresses diminished role, will reportedly talk to team about trade possibility
Breece Hall is the star of the New York Jets offense and something that fellow running back Dalvin Cook has had to adjust to.
Cook joined the Jets this offseason after spending six years with the Minnesota Vikings.
With the trade deadline approaching next Tuesday, Cook said he will speak with Jets general manager Joe Douglas about a possible trade, according to ESPN.
Cook wanted to make it clear that he was not looking for a job, but was willing to do “what’s best for everybody.”
“It’s out of my control when my name comes up in trade rumors,” Cook said.
“It could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing.”
Cook currently has 39 rush attempts for 109 yards, averaging 2.8 yards per carry, and no touchdowns.
He ranked last among qualified rushers in yards per carry.
Hall has 66 attempts for 426 yards (317 more than Cook), 6.5 yards per carry and two touchdowns.
Cook said it will take some time to get used to playing No. 2 instead of No. 1.
“I’m preparing.
I’m working. I just want it to work for both sides,” Cook said (via The Athletic ).
“Of course it’s disappointing and it’s something new for me.
Catch the ball 20 times in a game.
I adapt myself.\”
Cook’s 109 yards in Week 5 were far fewer than before.
In his career, he has run for at least 4.6 yards in Week 7 in every season except 2018.
He missed five games earlier this year with a thigh injury.
At this point last season, Cook had 341 more rushing yards than he has this season.
In 2022, Cook was the Vikings’ leading rusher with 1,173 yards.
He’s miles ahead of second-place quarterback Alexander Mattison, who had 283 yards.
Cook was the Vikings’ leading rusher in 2021 (1,159 yards) and again in 2020 (1,557 yards).
2019 (1,135 m) and 2018 (615 m).
The only time in his career he wasn’t the team’s primary player was his rookie season, and now that he’s lost the ball to Hall, that’s happening again this year.
Cook’s role could expand if Hall can’t play, but at this point, it looks like he’ll stay that way for the rest of the season.
The Jets next game is Sunday against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
