Promising Indianapolis Colts Player on the Road to Returning
The Colts quarterback is hoping for a comeback
Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen says Jelani Woods could be closer to his long-awaited return.
Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen announced today that Jelani Woods is close to returning. Kevin Bowen 1075 The Fan received this update.
“Steichen said Jelani Woods (Oul) is approaching practice,” Bowen X wrote.
“Wods on IR to start season”.
Woods, who has missed most of offseason training and camp, is looking forward to getting back on the court after being placed on injured reserve for all seven games so far this year. To see what Woods can do, you only have to go back to 2022, when he was still a rookie.
In 15 games, he has 25 catches (40 targets) for 312 receiving yards and three receiving TDs. While those aren’t mind-blowing numbers, it should be added that Woods is the product of one of the worst offensive years Indianapolis has seen as a franchise in recent history.
Now, if Woods has an offensive mind like Steichen’s that he can use, that could go a long way in helping him finish his second year at full potential.
At 6-foot-4 and over 250 pounds, Woods is a threat in the red zone and can overpower any defender given his size.
The Colts’ hope is that Woods’ return is closer. While it’s fair to say that Drew Ogletree, Kylen Grenson, Mo Ali-Cox and Will Mallory have played well as a unit, it’s also probably true that no one has as much skill as Woods. His return will further strengthen this talented group for Steichen’s attack.
