Ex-Colorado Player Says Son Was Disrespected on Recruiting Visit to Boulder
Colorado’s comeback under Deion Sanders has attracted some top talent looking to be a part of Boulder’s new culture.
But with so many high school players involved in the program, Colorado seems to have dropped the ball on one player.
Former Colorado State University football player Anvaun Jones, who played one season with the Buffaloes in 2000, took to social media to criticize Colorado for the way it treated his son during a recent recruiting trip .
He said the program kicked Marco Jones out of the lobby during the game.
“Marco explained who [he] was and they said he wasn’t on the list and asked him to leave,” Anwaun wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday.
“You kicked my son and coach out of the facility and he didn’t care if they were from [California].”
Jones praised Sanders in the post and didn’t want to take anything away from what the coach accomplished in his first year.
Still, the former defensive end was upset with how Marco, a four-star linebacker from the San Ramon Valley in Danville, Calif., was treated when he visited the CU campus.
“I know things are busy in Boulder and all kinds of good things are happening, but you treated the son of a true blue grinder and KO fan like a bushhacker,” Jones added.
“Marco would be a great fan, but it’s a shame fans don’t know who he is.”
Despite the incident, Jones said he will continue to support Colorado, but expressed frustration that his son did not support the Buffaloes.
“I support all the recruits who come to KO.
It’s a shame that Marco doesn’t end up being one of them,” he said.
“It must have slipped through the cracks.”
