Padres Rumors: Insider Proposes Trade to Send Juan Soto to Boston for Former Dodgers Top Prospect
“A potential package for the Red Sox could start with Alex Verdugo, who would be the Padres’ starting left fielder.
Add to that starting pitcher Tanner Hook (who would fit right into the Padres’ rotation) and some good pitching prospects .with Miguel Blais and right Luis Perales.
Can you imagine Verdugo being the centerpiece of both a Mookie Betts trade and a potential Soto trade?
“It can’t be done, but with Soto only having one year under his belt, it’s clear that his returns will be significantly reduced.”
If the Padres want to move Soto, they want a good prospect in return.
But it’s about getting proven players like Verdugo.
They might be more interested. Not only could he replace Soto in the field, but he could also be paid much less than Soto.
Verdugo has one year left on his contract and contract negotiations with Boston have yet to progress. This could be a win-win situation for both parties and would help San Diego move forward financially.
Verdugo had a solid season in 2023 with a .264 batting average, 13 home runs and 54 RBI. While he’s not on the same level as Soto, he’s a quality defender who can provide much-needed relief to the team on the field.
Book salary.
βThe Red Sox need to make an impact this offseason, and trading Soto is definitely something to consider. It also takes some of the pressure off the young players they are developing, including Triston Casas, Jarren Duran and Seddan Rafaela.
Soto would be the breakout star the Red Sox have been looking for since Mookie Betts left the team and will thrive as a shortstop in right. This trade makes all the sense for the Red Sox and they are excited about acquiring him.
They can extend Soto and have real firepower.
Overall, this trade works out well for both sides, and both teams might really want to consider trading together this winter.
