Vikings’ Josh Metellus fined for hit on 49ers’ Kittle

Josh Metellus of the Vikings was fined for tackling Kittle of the 49ers.

The NFL fined the Minnesota Vikings quarterback for a helmet-to-helmet hit against the 49ers on Monday night.

But it wasn’t the play that got the most attention this week.
Vikings safety Josh Metellus was fined $11,167 for hitting 49ers tight end George Kittle with his helmet during a 16-yard pass play midway through the fourth quarter .

The play did not result in a flag, but the league announced Saturday that it had fined Metellus for “unnecessary roughness.” However, Vikings quarterback Jordan Hicks was not fined under the NFL’s concussion protocol for hitting 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
No penalties were awarded during the match. Purdy may have been hurt when Hicks took a helmet-to-helmet hit on third-and-1 with 7:03 left in the fourth quarter.

Purdy was suspended for not winning at the line. The 49ers ran the same play on fourth down, and Purdy gained 2 yards on first down.

On the next play, Vikings quarterback Camryn Bynum intercepted Purdy’s pass to Jauan Jennings.

On the flight home, Purdy reported his first concussion symptoms.
He was placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol on Tuesday.

Purdy was symptom-free and was able to participate in walking practice on Wednesday.
By the next day, he had progressed enough that he was actually protocol restricted.

Purdy was a full participant in practice on Friday, and the 49ers cleared the concussion protocol on Saturday and is eligible to play against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
The 49ers listed Purdy as “questionable” on Friday.
After the protocol went through, they removed all signs of injury.
The NFL did not fine any 49ers players for conduct deemed illegal or unnecessary during the Week 7 game against the Vikings.
