Astros Reportedly Could Look To Land Red Sox Star In Offseason Shake-Up

Boston could trade one of their players and the Astros could be interested.

The Boston Red Sox could make a surprising move this offseason.

Boston needs to turn things around. The Red Sox finished last in the American League East the past two seasons and have not won more than 78 games in a season since 2021.
The Red Sox, led by new Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow, will be active this offseason , and that could mean swapping key parts.
Red Sox shortstop Alex Verdugo has found his name in trade talks through the 2023 season, and it looks like the talks will resume this offseason.
According to Nick Deeds of MLB Trade Rumors, one of the teams showing interest is the Houston Astros.

Houston was one of the teams linked to the Red Sox at the trade deadline, and given the uncertainty surrounding veteran Michael Brantley’s health, it’s easy to understand the club’s desire to bring in a left-handed reliever to complement Jake Myers and Chas McCormick.
Facts said then.
“With Brantley hitting free agency and on the verge of breaking into left field for the club, the club’s interest in Verdugo will continue into the offseason.” “Verdugo provides quality defense in left field and complements right-handers McCormick and Meyers with left-hander Kyle Tucker playing right field every day.”

The Red Sox outfielder has been linked to the Astros in the past, and a trade could make sense.
Boston needs starting depth, and a deal involving Verdugo could result in a functional team and some prospects.
It’s still too early to tell, but there will definitely be rumors.
