Steelers Mitch Trubisky left a press conference after being assured Kenny Pickett would play against the Titans.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are holding their breath to see if Kenny Pickett is good enough to play Thursday Night Football or if Mitch Trubisky is the starter.
After the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8, Trubisky talked about how he needs to get better and will prepare for Thursday’s game like it’s his first time.
But Pickett said in a news conference that he will definitely play Thursday. After that statement, members of the media waited for Trubisky to take the podium and speak directly to the issue.
Trubisky was scheduled to hold a post-picket press conference, but did not show up.
Mark Kaboli of The Athletic tweeted why Trubisky decided to pull out of the interview.
Dealing with the press can be very frustrating at times, and Trubisky probably knows exactly what kind of questions they ask him.
All this can be about how he feels about the picketing, how he deals and prepares for it and other questions related to it. Instead of dealing with the media, he didn’t show up at the press conference without saying a word about himself.
Trubisky is signed to stay in Pittsburgh through the 2023 season, so you should know he’s there as Pickett’s support and mentor.
Still, it’s still weird to see a backup quarterback go only when the starter announces he’s healthy enough to play.
However, it’s still safe to expect Pickett to be ready to play Thursday if he’s unfortunate enough to get injured again.
Will the Steelers or the NFL discipline Trubisky?
The NFL fined Marshawn Lynch for failing to appear or respond to a press conference.
So they could fine Trubisky for doing just that. Any potential NFL discipline could be announced on Saturday, which usually results in fines for the league’s players.
If an emergency forces Trubisky to go or any other issues arise, we wish Trubisky well.
Although press conferences can sometimes be very frustrating for players and coaches, you should attend them when scheduled. Either way, it’s nice to see Pickett ready to go, and Trubisky should be ready to go if needed.
