Why Colts fans get the last laugh as McDaniels is fired by Raiders?
McDaniels coached the Colts less than 10 hours in 2018.
The Las Vegas Raiders made a surprising move on Wednesday, firing head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler.
This news may have come as a surprise to some, but Indianapolis Colts fans couldn’t help but enjoy the moment.
They haven’t forgotten that McDaniels agreed to coach the Colts in 2018, but resigned 9 hours and 35 minutes after the team made the announcement.
It was a move that prompted the Colts to find a replacement and eventually land Frank Reich.
“McDaniels took a chance on us and blew it,” said one Colts fan.
“We’ll be better off without him.” McDaniels’ career with the Raiders wasn’t great, going 9-16.
However, he still had more than four years left on his contract with the team. The Colts, on the other hand, eventually had a successful season under Reich, making the playoffs and winning their last game against the Raiders.
“We showed McDaniels what he was missing,” said one Colts fan.
“We beat his team and proved that we made the right choice with Reich.”
Colts fans mocked McDaniels on social media.
This is not McDaniels coming out on top. He previously coached the Denver Broncos for more than one season in 2009-10 with an 11-17 record. McDaniels appears to have struggled to find success as a head coach in the NFL.
Colts fans see McDaniels’ firing as karma for his decision to step down as coach in Indianapolis.
Columnist Gregg Doyle wrote, “McDaniels is a selfish little brat.” “But somehow he did Colt and Indy a favor.
“I ended up going with Reich, who turned out to be a much better player for our team.”
“Let’s stop talking about McDaniels,” one Colts fan said.
“We are moving forward and focusing on the future.
And right now the future looks very bright.”
