George Pickens Makes Mysterious social media statement
Steelers wide receiver George Pickens took to Instagram on Friday, posting a story with a frustrated character with the words “Free Me” underneath.
The announcement came after Pickens appeared frustrated on the sideline Thursday night after Diontae Johnson’s touchdown.
Pickens appeared to be in a solemn mood throughout Thursday night, with his sideline body language depicting exactly that.
Not only did Pickens do this, but he also abandoned all of his offensive teammates except for college teammates Broderick Jones and Mason Rudolph.
The final move he will make is to delete the entire page of Steelers-related posts.
Is this worrying about George Pickens’ explosive potential?
He may be frustrated with the attention he receives from the defense.
Pickens has been a double coverage target for most of the season, and even with the return of Diontae Johnson, that hasn’t really subsided.
Teams seem comfortable letting Johnson make short-term gains while keeping the big play on Pickens’ leash.
Sure, Pickens should have scored a touchdown against the Titans, but he took a step too big and crossed the line.
Since Johnson returned to the lineup against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7, Johnson has 29 targets and 20 catches.
Pickens had 18 targets and only caught eight.
This isn’t the first time Pickens has expressed disappointment.
There were several instances where his teammates talked to him about his sideline issues over the course of two seasons, even during training camp.
He is an emotional player and sometimes wears his heart on his sleeve.
So far, Pickens’ frustration hasn’t caused any notable negativity within the team.
If this continues, his passion and desire to help his team win could be a positive.
But he must learn to handle his frustrations professionally.
