Report: Vikings never received a first-round offer for Hunter, considered multiple QBs

“From what I understand, they’ve never had a first-round pick.”

The Vikings did not receive a first-round offer for punter Daniel Hunter before Tuesday’s trade deadline, according to KSTP’s Darren Wolfson.

Dougie spoke on Skor North’s Mackey & Judd about how receptive the Vikings were to their league-leading bid: I think this place is going to be fun. If a team makes an offer like the Dolphins did to Bradley Chubb a year ago…
They didn’t have that opportunity.
Was there any research?

Hunter had an outstanding first year under new defensive coordinator Brian Flores, leading the team in sacks (10) and tackles for loss (12).

Elaborating on Hunter’s situation, Wolfson said Hunter “really likes it here” when discussing whether the Vikings could extend the 29-year-old running back.
“He likes it here whether Brian Flores comes back next year or not,” Wolfson continued.
“Despite the tensions of the last few years, Daniel loves being a Viking. He enjoys being a Viking now.

Hunter’s future with the organization wasn’t the only big question facing the franchise as the deadline approached. Kirk Cousins’ season-ending injury left the Vikings needing a quarterback for the rest of the season.

“It’s not like Josh Dobbs or something broke,” Dougie said while discussing who the Vikings will target at the deadline.
“I mean, I understand John Wolford was the guy they really wanted, but Tampa moved on.
“They moved him from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.”

Wolford was on Tampa’s practice squad, but the 28-year-old QB was moved to the 53-man roster after receiving interest from the Vikings and Rams.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell previously worked with Wolford when they were both in the Rams organization during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

“They destroyed the other guys,” Dougie continued.
Jacoby Brissett is out of contract in Washington. I know Jameis Winston’s name came up inside, but I don’t know how far it went.”

Minnesota ended up trading a sixth-round pick from the Cardinals for Dobbs and a seventh-round pick from the Cardinals.
