Garrett Wilson’s Offers Harsh Assessment of Jets Offense After Loss to Chargers

Garrett Wilson gives a scathing assessment of the Jets offense after the loss to the Chargers

After going through another contest with a struggling Jets offense, star receiver Garrett Wilson didn’t hold back when talking about the group’s effort against the Chargers on Monday Night Football.
The Jets’ 27-6 loss at home in overtime was the latest example of the Zach Wilson-led offense not offering much help to New York’s stout defense.
After the game, Garrett Wilson questioned the morale of the offense after its last dismal effort, prompting the second-year opener of general frustration and his continued hope of turning things around.
“When you play at that level and you play on the offensive side of the ball, if you didn’t get angry, I would think something was wrong…”, Wilson said. “It’s disappointing, it definitely messes with your psyche a bit. But there’s nothing we can’t handle. We’re professionals, we’ll push through it and be better at the back, but I’d be lying if I said we’re all happy with what we’re doing on the pitch.

As Wilson alluded to, the N.Y. gone MNF disaster almost something positive to hold on to. Despite having the leakiest pass defense in the NFL, the Jets failed to contain the onslaught, allowing eight sacks and 3:17 left in the third but failing to score a touchdown.
The problems of the offense were further highlighted when the strong defense of Justin Herbert and Co. held them to 191 yards. Wilson later admitted that he was tired of seeing this season.
“I hate coming down the field, looking at the defense and knowing we have to send them back down the field after a three-yard play,” said Wilson, who recorded seven catches for 80 yards. “These kids are my daughters. They come out and play. They put us in a great position. It’s time we start returning the favor.”

Before MNF, the numbers showed Wilson’s spot as the defense was sixth in points per game and the offense was 26th in scoring.
As the Jets (4-4) continue to search for answers on offense, it will be interesting to see what the team comes up with as they try to correct mistakes in all three phases heading into another first-round bye in Week 10. Raiders.
