Horner reveals Alonso’s advantage over Perez in Red Bull battle
Christian Horner said it was both really entertaining and see Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez wheel to wheel at the Brazilian GP.
The 42-year-old Spaniard was able to hold off Perez at the line to claim his eighth podium of the season, but the battle was so tight that a photo finish was needed to decide the outcome.
He drove superbly to keep the much better Red Bull car behind him for several laps before finishing just 0.053s behind Perez in fourth.
It was a battle that Perez described as one for other drivers to watch out for, with both experienced drivers racing hard but fair.
At Interlagos, the Mexican driver was under pressure to keep his place alongside three-time world champion Max Verstappen, with Alonso reportedly one man on a list of potential replacements. Alonso praised Hornerand
Despite the rumors swirling around Perezand#039’s future, Horner is adamant that the Mexican has won and won’t be going anywhere until at least the end of next year when his current deal expires.
Now the head of the Red Bull team has revealed how much he enjoyed the battle between his driver and veteran Spaniard Alonso.
andquot;Aston Martin has taken a good step forward. We saw them run very low drag in the race and it seemed to work, andquot; Horner said via Mundo Deportivo.
andquot;They were very fast in the straight. And I think Checo obviously had to use a lot of tires, starting from ninth on the grid and going against the traffic, and he did that very well.
andquot;The software, especially at the end, showed that and#039;Checoand#039; was faster, but Fernando (Alonso) is a smart old fox and positions the car very well.
andquot;And it was a great race between the two of them, it was really fun to see two bikes like that.andquot;
