Halfway through the 2023 NFL season, quarterback Josh Dobbs has already had a whirlwind campaign for the ages.

From finishing training camp with the Browns, to starting eight games for the Cardinals, to sacking the Vikings to a comeback win just five days after the trade deadline, it’s been a roller coaster for Dobbs.

However, his ability to step up in the face of adversity should ensure the route-caller gets a significant payday this offseason.
The AFC executive told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Dobbs is expected to receive andquot;pretty good money andquot; of his next contract as a free agent in 2024. According to the CEO, Dobbs has proven himself to be a high-level number one. a quarterback who can also serve as a starter if needed. Dobbs is not the only Minnesotan and #039; quarterback looking for significant compensation this offseason.

Kirk Cousins, who had the best season of his career — second in the NFL in receiving yards (2,331) — before tearing his Achilles in Week 8, is set to enter free agency in March. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, a return to Minnesota should be considered a viable option. For Cousins, who will not be fully recovered by the time teams can make contract offers.

Dobbs has been a nice story this season, but Minnesota would be wise not to commit its future to a quarterback with a 1-9 career record. In the best-case scenario, the Vikings re-sign both quarterbacks, giving the team a leading signal-caller in Cousins​​​​​​ and a top-tier QB2 in Dobbs to back up the 35-year-old starter after injury. Ultimately, paying both players could be too steep for the Vikings, who have star Justin Jefferson and #039; huge contract extension. Unless the Vikings move up in the draft to secure a quarterback, re-signing Cousins​​​​should be a priority.

As for Dobbs, he should be a nice fit as a stop for a team looking to develop a young quarterback on the wing — not bad for Dobbs, who only attempted 17 passes in the NFL before last season.
