New Cowboys WR Martavis Bryant release official first statement in return from suspension
New Cowboys WR Martavis Bryant Discusses NFL Comeback: ‘The Sky’s The Limit For Me’
Martavis Bryant is confident he will be useful to the Cowboys as the franchise hopes to reach the Super Bowl this season, even though he hasn’t played since 2018.
On Tuesday, the Cowboys signed Bryant to the team’s practice squad after he finished working with the team and was officially reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. In 2018, the league suspended Bryant indefinitely for violating the terms of his earlier reinstatement.
Prior to Bryant’s ’18 suspension, he had been disciplined multiple times during his NFL career for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, including missing the entire ’16 campaign. However, speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the 31-year-old feels he has “lost nothing” of his football skills and wants to make an impact on the franchise. “The sky’s the limit for me,” Bryant told The Athletic’s Jon Machota. – I know I’m 31, but I’m still fast, still big, still want to play football. I didn’t lose anything. This is further proof that it relates to me. I have many doubters. More than that, I’m proving to myself that I can still get it.”
Bryant, a former Steelers and Raiders wide receiver, played in 44 games over four years with Pittsburgh and the then-Oakland Raiders. After serving his ’16 suspension, Bryant played one more season in Pittsburgh before joining the Raiders for the ’18 campaign.
In four seasons, Bryant had 145 receptions for 2,183 yards and 17 touchdowns. The former fourth-round pick in the ’14 NFL Draft had his best NFL seasons in his first two years in Pittsburgh, where he had 76 receptions for 1,314 yards and 14 touchdowns in 21 games.
