Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins fined $25K

Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins was fined $25,000 for insulting officials following Friday’s 127-121 loss to the Utah Jazz.
In the postgame media session, Jenkins called the play “one of the most poorly executed plays” he’s ever seen.
The Jazz finished the game with 29 free throw attempts, while the Grizzlies had 13 free throw attempts. Memphis big man Jaren Jackson Jr. was ejected in the third quarter for reacting to multiple missed calls.
Jackson was caught by his teammates before he could return to the locker room.

After the game, Jenkins told reporters that he knew he would be fined before texting the referee.
“This is one of the worst plays I’ve ever seen.
Write it down.
I’m fine.
Bloody horror,” Jenkins said.
“[Jackson Jr.] played 23 minutes and was in the paint all night.
He is one of the most professional players in this league and has two technical fouls.
And I agree with him throwing himself at the referee.
This is called de-escalation.

“I shot 29 free throws for 13 and I’m not that coach.
Going back in history, we did it again. Our team will do everything possible to compete.
And what is it?
What is your current relationship with government officials?
It’s completely rude. I know what will happen.
Faced with disbelief, now trying to start a conversation to defend our tail-kicking boys.

“Jaren Jackson” is one of the most professional players.
If you go watch the game, he drives under the basket twice in a row.
No free throw attempts.
I’m not trying to put a name on the uniform.
This person must make all these mistakes. Watch the game.
There were 29 free throws (actually 7), with a few more added late in the game. I don’t understand why men compete with each other.
“We have things to clean up.
Sometimes we’re standing and someone says, “Hey, there.” When we try to talk about what’s going on and it’s not going well.
This confuses me. What are we doing here?
What are we doing?
Our children compete with each other. We have to play better.
We have to prepare our players and play better.
But tonight I don’t understand anything.

“Let’s get back to the conversation.
strictly speaking. nothing. There is a stone wall. ignore.
So you might be wondering why our employees want to compete.
I do not know I look forward to hearing everything and watching the tapes to find out what happened when you send the clips.
Why do you think this? I haven’t done that for most of my career, but I have to protect my friends who do their best. And we try not to lose our heads.
We’re trying to win basketball games and play better.
It’s simple.
We will try to play better.
I’ll try to play better.”

Jenkins did not make a mistake knowing he would be fined, the league said Sunday, citing “criticism of the refereeing” for the huge amount.
If an NBA player or coach publicly criticizes a referee, they are usually fined.
Last March, then-Suns coach Monty Williams was fined $20,000 for comments he made to officials after a game, but given the length and nature of Jenkins’ rant, the $25,000 figure dollars is not surprising.
Friday’s loss sparked anger at the performance of the Grizzlies, who fell to a league-worst 1-8.
Ja Morant is currently serving a 25-game suspension handed down in June, while center Steven Adams is out for the year with knee surgery.
Memphis missed both and is trying to get back to the postseason.
So it’s understandable why Jenkins would be upset if he thought his team wasn’t getting a fair shake from the officials.
