Report: Vikings looking to bring back former first-round pick.
The former No. 9 pick out of Minnesota had 495 tackles, 17.5 sacks and five interceptions.
The Minnesota Vikings will once again feature a familiar face.
The team plans to sign linebacker Anthony Barr after the former first-rounder’s contract expires, according to ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Barr, the ninth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, signed with the Dallas Cowboys this past offseason after spending eight seasons in Minnesota. Dallas did not re-sign their veteran quarterback.
This news comes after the team revealed that linebacker Jordan Hicks was hospitalized following the Vikings’ 27-19 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said Monday that Hicks suffered from compartment syndrome after being shot directly in the shin during the game.
Minnesota (6-4) has won five straight and is currently in contention for the final NFC playoff spot.
“As our guys showed, we could classify it as a type of compartment syndrome where pressure in that area and not treating it carefully can cause damage.
O’Connell said.
O’Connell said Hicks, Minnesota’s biggest player, could miss this week’s game in Denver.
Hicks played in nearly every game on defense for the Vikings this season, recording 87 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and two forced fumbles.
Hicks left the game with an injury in the first quarter Sunday and was evaluated on the sideline.
He returned late in the second quarter, left again in the third and was ruled out for the rest of the game.
Barr had 58 combined tackles, including a sack, with the Cowboys last year. While in Minnesota, Barr recorded 495 tackles, 17.5 sacks and five interceptions.
With the Vikings, Barr wore number 55, which is currently worn by Andre Carter II.
