Steelers coach Mike Tomlin sends a warning shot to Kenny Pickett
Steelers cornerback Kenny Pickett got a big kiss from his coach in Week 11.
One day in the distant future, pundits will determine exactly how the Pittsburgh Steelers will start their season with a 6-3 record.
As one Twitter user said, they are docking traders in the fourth quarter.
Their success is meaningless.
So far this year, the Steelers have beaten AFC North rivals the Browns and Ravens, and in the last two weeks they’ve somehow managed to beat the Titans and Packers.
As long as the Steelers are winning, quarterback Kenny Pickett is (mostly) immune to criticism.
Mike Tomlin recently discussed Pickett’s future impact, saying it will take “a lot” if the team wants to make the playoffs.
Tomlin said: “Especially as the roads get narrower, we need more.
People like me and Kenny are measured by wins and losses.
He and I talk about it often and openly.
We know what the mission is. Our mission is to win.”
Mike Tomlin has a huge crush on Kenny Pickett.
Tomlin’s opinion of Pickett isn’t exactly complimentary, but it’s not negative either.
He acknowledges that Pickett has work to do in his second year as the Steelers’ starter.
But he seemed pleased with Pickett’s mindset and accomplishments thus far.
The Pitt product hasn’t had a turnover in the last five games and has had a turnover in just four games this year.
With the backcourt of Naji Harris and Jaylen Warren having had more success of late and his defense being shut down as well, Pickett doesn’t need to make spectacular plays.
Even if Matt can’t fully trust Canada, keep going, throw easy, don’t give up the ball and trust your instincts.
Seeing the Steelers rise to the top of the AFC North (given the way they’re playing) would be one of the biggest surprises of the 2023 season.
Given the struggles of the division they’re in, their work isn’t done yet.
They will face the Browns and Bengals in season-defining turf battles over the next two weeks.
For better or for worse, the fate of the Steelers rests in the hands of the undersized Pickett.
