Steelers HC Mike Tomlin is taking things slow and steady with Kenny Pickett.
This season hasn’t gone as planned for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett.
But things are much better for the team as a whole, with a record of 6-3.
But what Pickett has accomplished in nine games doesn’t inspire confidence that this offense can keep up with teams like the Kansas City Chiefs or Miami Dolphins.
Coach Mike Tomlin didn’t apologize for the slow start when he spoke to the media Tuesday, but he didn’t seem at all concerned about Pickett’s trajectory and offense.
Of course, as the track gets narrower, more will be needed.
But players like Kenny and I are judged by wins and losses.
He and I talk about it often and openly.
We know what our job is, our mission is to win and we are there now.
Our focus is here. I like that he recognizes that there is work to be done inside and out, but I don’t think we’re going to do that on Wednesday.
We are working on this and will continue to do so until we get the results we want.
Listening to Tomlin, it feels like he really embraces the premise that teams need to get better and not rush until they win.
Whether this style of play can carry the Steelers into the playoffs remains to be seen.
