Colts Rumors: Indy asked to bring back WR
Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett is remembered as one of the Indianapolis Colts’ most productive first-round picks in recent memory.
In two seasons with the team, Dorsett recorded 51 receptions for 753 yards and zero touchdowns.
However, Bleacher Report is calling for the Colts to return their former first-round pick.
“The Cubs are dangerously thin at the catcher position.
Josh Downs and Alec Pierce’s titles are on the line this week.
There are only five wide receivers on the active roster,” the Bleacher Report NFL staff wrote.
“It’s good to study other teams now.
It gives you some depth.
“Phillip Dorsett is a household name.
The former Colt is currently on the Broncos practice squad.”
The Colts can keep Dorsett off Denver’s practice squad for free until Indianapolis places him on the active roster.
The Colts drafted Dorsett with the 29th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but he started seven games before Indianapolis traded him to the New England Patriots for quarterback Jacoby Brissett before the 2017 season.
In eight NFL seasons, Dorsett has 151 catches, 2,001 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
His best season came with the Colts in 2016, when he had 33 receptions for 528 yards and two touchdowns.
The 30-year-old has spent most of this season on the Broncos’ practice squad.
He started in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
But it was only 6 overs and although he scored 1 run, he failed to catch the ball.
Last year with the Houston Texans, Dorsett had 20 catches for 257 yards and a touchdown.
The Colts have had two head coaches and multiple offensive coordinators since Dorsett last played for the team in 2016.
However, if the team is concerned about the health of Josh Downs and Alec Pearce, Dorsett is an interesting potential addition.
But the Colts have a bye in Week 11, which should give Down and Pierce time to recover from nagging injuries.
