Browns to host quarterback workout including former super bowl winner following Deshaun Watson injury
The Cleveland Browns, who lost starting quarterback Deshaun Watson for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, will look to rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson to start this weekend against the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers.
But they are also considering other quarterbacks.
Joe Flacco, who played for the Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos and New York Jets, worked out for the Browns on Friday.
However, the veteran left without a contract, according to Cleveland.com.
He remains their top target and could be added to the active roster or practice squad next week.
After spending the first 11 years of his career in Baltimore, where he won a Super Bowl, Flacco bounced between starting and backup tight end for each team, spending one year in Denver and three years in New York. He started four games in 2022 and went 1-3, completing just 57.6 percent of his passes for a career average of 5.5 yards and five touchdowns against three interceptions.
The now 38-year-old quarterback has been out of the league all season.
It’s not yet known what other players might do in Cleveland, but in addition to Thompson-Robinson, the Browns have P.J. It seems unlikely that any deal would secure both players, but there have been exceptions, especially in this rough season of backup quarterback play.
