Former F1 driver claims Red Bull star ‘not worth the money’
Former Formula 1 driver Hans-Joachim Stuck said Sergio Perez was “not worth the money” after he failed to get on the podium at the Brazilian Grand Prix and called him “blind” and “stupid”.
Red Bull driver Perez missed out on the podium at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix after a heated on-track battle with Fernando Alonso.
This is not the first misfortune for Perez, who previously crashed at the Mexican Grand Prix while trying to match the pace of teammate Max Verstappen.
This led former driver Stuck to criticize the Red Bull driver and express his disbelief at his failure to overtake Alonso in Brazil.
“Sergio Perez was driving behind Fernando Alonso in Brazil, but he didn’t realize that Alonso was driving a much faster line on the long straight,” said Stuck.
“I have to say: Is he an idiot? Is he blind?
There’s all kinds of art…and it’s worth the money.
Perez doesn’t have enough DRS to pass as Alonso shows he is very quick as he drives to the outside of the corner.
And he still chooses a different path. I do not understand.
red bull replacement
Stuck also said he would like to see Perez replaced by the Aston Martin driver, saying he would create a strong combination in the Red Bull team.
The 72-year-old also praised three-time world champion Verstappen, calling him “the man of the moment”.
But he expressed confidence that Alonso can drive like the Dutchman.
“We don’t have to talk about Max Verstappen.” Blocked added.
“That’s who he is now, there’s no doubt about it.
But if I see Alonso whistling on the tarmac, I’d like to see him at Red Bull.
“The way Alonso drives, the way he fights is practically perfect and he leads the team forward. I would say he will be very close to Verstappen.
I’m sure of this.
“There is no doubt that he is closer than Perez. There are very few people I can drive at Verstappen’s level and Alonso is 100% one of them.
“I think it’s amazing.”
With the Red Bull and Aston Martin driver confirmed until 2024, it seems unlikely we’ll see Alonso move on.
However, witnessing a showdown between the two drivers in Las Vegas or Abu Dhabi could spark more rumors about a potential replacement for Red Bull in the paddock.
