JUST-IN: Penrith panther star set for a shocked immediate exit from panthers
Panthers star Jarome Luai has linked up again with struggling West Tigers.
Jarome Luai’s NRL future beyond 2024 is uncertain
$1 million per season, plus more if he leaves the Panthers.
The Tigers & Bulldogs said they were committed to securing Luai for the long term.
Out-of-contract Panthers star Jarome Luai has rejoined West Tigers and his friendship with captain Api Koroisau could be invaluable.
Ruai, 26, was given permission to negotiate with rival NRL clubs from November 1 and his contract with Penrith expires in 2024. The Premiers said they could pay the five-eighth about $850,000 a season because of the salary cap. This is much less than what I order elsewhere.
After winning three consecutive titles, the popular belief is that the polarizing king may be looking for a new challenge. So playing under Benji Marshall would be attractive. And while in the foothills of NSW’s Blue Mountains, Luay always played second fiddle to midfielder Nathan Cleary.
The NSW Origin representative is close friends with Koroisau after winning two NRL competitions in 2021 and 2022 and it’s safe to say his crafty focus would have caught Luay’s ear and prompted an on-the-spot meeting. Ruai also grew up idolizing Marshall, so if he goes to Concord, he could be successful because of his instinctive style of football.
As offseason rumors continue to swirl, Marshall recently said, “You have to look at every player that comes on the market. “Especially if they’re big players [like Luai],” he said. Luay could also consider a move to the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs will be reunited with many familiar faces, notably coach Cameron Ciraldo, close friend Stephen Crichton and former teammates William Kikau and Matt Burton.
Ruai posted an animation-style photo of himself on social networking service (SNS) Instagram and replied: “Know your worth.”
